From the dawn of theme park time, theme parks have been doing corporate collaborations, from Disneyland’s opening day handshakes with nearly three dozen companies, including GE, Kodak, Frito-Lay (Casa de Fritos), Aunt Jemima (Aunt Jemima Pancake House), and Pepsi (The Golden Horseshoe). The 1964 World’s Fair saw some of Walt’s most inspired integrations with Ford, General Electric, the State of Illinois, and Pepsi (on behalf of UNICEF).
Disney World has had partnerships along the way with McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, and tons of celebrity chefs and their restaurants at Disney Springs.
Restaurantosaurus in Animal Kingdom originally sold Happy Meals, though the restaurant itself is currently on the chopping block. The red, yellow and white “pipes” overhead in the Dinosaur ride still have the chemical compositions for mayo, mustard and ketchup stamped on the sides of the pipes, a nod to the original McDonald’s sponsorship of the ride (1998-2008). Alas, Dinosaur itself will be extinct by the end of the year.
Some of the Disneyland partnerships were lucrative endeavors for the fledgling Disneyland venture, with the companies at the World’s Fair in particular underwriting Disneyland’s ride developments, including Pepsi/UNICEF’s it’s a small world, Illinois’ Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln, and General Electric’s Carousel of Progress.
Beginning February 16, 2025, Disney will be launching a new collaboration – or rather, Bath & Body works will be launching a collaboration with Disney. Bath & Body Works is releasing a new limited-edition collection of more than 80 different products, inspired by six Disney princesses. Included in the launch are Ariel (The Little Mermaid), Jasmine (Aladdin), Tiana (The Princess and the Frog), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Cinderella, and Moana.
The new product line is Bath & Body works largest collaboration to date. Some of the products are available online while the entire collection is launching in the physical stores. It’s sure to be popular, as some of the items are already sold out, pre-launch, at my local shop and online for Bath & Body Works members. The goodies include body washes, hand soaps, hand creams, hand sanitizers, body mists, and even candles and special accessories to jazz up your choices. Shop online at bathandbodyworks.com. (We don’t get any compensation for our article!)
Wondering what scents the princesses prefer? Ariel, of course, has scents that are reminiscent of the ocean, with “sea salt breeze, golden citrus and coral waters.” Belle leans toward rose petals, sparkling buttercup and whipped vanilla. Jasmine’s scent features, obviously, jasmine flowers, as well as currant. Tiana gives a nod to the water scenes in her film, with “delicate water lily, gilded amber and shimmering bayou woods” tones. Cinderella likes hand creams featuring gardenia petals, musk, and sapphire blue amber. Moana’s products are “lush green palms, plumeria breeze and coconut water.” (You were expecting the coconut, weren’t you, with the Kakamora coconut pirates chasing her down?)
The current pre-launch pricing for a few of the products ranges from $15.95 for the 10 ounce body wash, to $17.95 for the fine fragrance mists (though there are better prices for bundling.)
If you are disappointed that your favorite princess isn’t there yet, don’t fear. While Bath & Body Works might have been hedging their bets to see how the first six princess collections were selling before bringing on new scents, they probably don’t need to worry. The buzz is high for these collections, and their “limited edition” status means there’s room for new princesses to move into the neighborhood before too long!
