Today (September 17) is Constitution Day. It’s a day when Americans should pause to appreciate this unique document in the history of mankind that laid out a form of government designed to limit the power of government, and to protect the natural rights of all citizens.
ConstitutionDay.com sums up matters as follows:
• “Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the U.S. or by naturalization, have become citizens… On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign the document they had created. We encourage all Americans to observe this important day in our nation's history by attending local events in your area. Celebrate Constitution Day through activities, learning, parades and demonstrations of our Love for the United States of America and the Blessings of Freedom Our Founding Fathers secured for us.”
Walt Disney was a patriotic guy, who demonstrated a love for the U.S. He held the history and ideals of America quite dearly. Consider the following quotes from Walt:
• “All men will want to be free and share our way of life. There must be so much that I should have said, but haven’t. What I will say now is just what most of us are probably thinking every day. I thank God and America for the right to live and raise my family under the flag of tolerance, democracy and freedom.”
• “The liberties which we enjoy and take for granted didn't just happen. They had to be won. Even today, there are parts of the world where the fight for freedom is still going on.”
And on the Constitution, Walt declared:
• “I’ve always been interested in the past and history. And I think it’s vital. I think [in] the world we’re living in today... we can’t forget the things that happened, such as... the Founding Fathers and that darn Constitution which is such a vital thing to what we’re doing today.”
Be like Walt – celebrate the Constitution, and what it has meant and still means.
